13 Days Away

Time for some meditation and music. Is it possible that whatever is swirling around us--literally or figuratively--will be okay if we don't put our focus on the swirls for a few moments? Today I recommend that we listen to the music before our time of meditation.

Meditation: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it." ~John 1:1-5

"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." ~John 1:14

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." ~John 3:16-17

"Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." ~John 20:30-31

"The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'" ~Matthew 28:16-20

Jesus is the Reason for the Season. Let this be the realization that guides us along on the days remaining in this Christmas season. Jesus Christ is the Word that was present in the beginning. Jesus Christ came to earth, lived a perfect life among a sinful world, and died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus won the battle over sin, death, and Satan. Jesus rose from the dead and returned to heaven asking us to go and "tell the world."

So, as we get back to the flurry swirling around us, let us understand the reason for the season.

Almighty God, You are worthy to be praised. We believe. We believe Jesus is Your Son. We believe that He is the Word. We are so grateful for Your love. Please guide us each day to a greater understanding of Your love for us, so that we can truly live out Jesus' request of us. Lord, we ask that You calm the swirls around us so we have more time for You, O Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

 Do You Hear What I Hear? 14 Days Away "Do You Hear What I Hear" and a countdown. One might be more than a little perplexed by how this is beginning. My holiday season has started the way it always does: hustle and bustle. Do You Hear What I Hear? ~11 Days Away

           "Little Drummer Boy" 11 Days Away "Parum-pum-pum-pum." After hearing only a few notes of this Christmas classic, we know the song. Have we ever thoroughly considered the sentiment behind the simple lyrics?  Music:  "The Little Drummer Boy" As with yesterday, the concepts behind the lyrics are powerful. Come--behold the baby Jesus. But when visiting we often bring gifts. What can we bring? What can we offer? Sadly, our inner, worldly Grinch can often appear here. During the holidays it seems everyone--everywhere--is asking us for more. More gifts, more donations, more time. When we have had enough, we start looking around to scrounge up whatever we might already have on hand to give.--Maybe a gift card will do? Maybe we can re-gift something?
